Designed for learners wishing to develop the skills, knowledge and understanding to enable them to provide appropriate care and manage life threatening conditions, minor illness and injuries. It is also ideal for people who have a specific responsibility to provide basic first aid in voluntary and community activities.

Qualification covers a range of essential emergency first aid topics including the role and responsibilities of a first aider, recognising signs and symptoms of injury and illness, managing unconscious casualties,Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and responding to incidents involving choking or external bleeding.

It also covers how to manage a casualty who is in shock and how to manage a casualty with minor injury.

Who needs this qualification?

It is also ideal for people who have a specific responsibility to provide basic first aid in voluntary and community activities.

 How long will it take?

To complete this qualification learner should expect to undertake 8 hours of learning, with a minimum contact time, excluding breaks of 6 hours typically over 1 day.

 Certificate validity

The Level 2 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work is valid for a period of three years. After this period, individuals wishing to retain their status as emergency first aider must re-qualify.

Assessment method

This qualification is assessed by a practical demonstration and written/oral questioning.
