SUMMARY

Employers are responsible for providing safe and healthy workplace conditions as well as the right
systems and methods for safe activities. Nevertheless, employees also have a vital part to play in
the equation. They need the correct knowledge and the right attitude, which demands proper
training in the basics of health and safety, as well as specific training for individual tasks.

TARGET AUDIENCE

The purpose of the Level 3 Award in Risk Assessment – Principles and Practice is to provide the
learner with the skills, knowledge and understanding of risk assessment and the importance of
Health and Safety including risk assessment processes in the workplace. Learners will understand
the relationships between hazard and risk as part of an accident and ill health strategy and apply
the hierarchy of controls to control risk to an acceptable level.

OBJECTIVES

These include the importance of health and safety in the workplace, the principles of risk
assessment, the relationship between hazard and applying the hierarchy of control to control risk.

COURSE VALIDITY

The Level 3 Award in Risk Assessment is valid for a period of three years.

COURSE PRE-REQUISITE

There is no established pre-requisite for attending this training, however participants must
understand and be able to communicate in English Language.
